Attendance and Punctuality Policy 2025
At Thundersley, we want every child to feel happy, included and ready to learn. Regular attendance helps children build friendships, grow in confidence and develop the skills they need to be the best they can be. Each day brings opportunities to learn, play and belong to our school community.
Small amounts of absence can soon add up. Across a typical 190-day school year:
-
95% attendance means missing around 10 days of school.
-
90% attendance means missing 19 days—almost four weeks of learning.
-
Missing one day every fortnight adds up to approximately four weeks over the year.
National research also shows a clear link between higher attendance and stronger achievement at the end of primary school.
We understand that children sometimes need to be absent because they are unwell, and that some families face additional challenges. If your child is finding it difficult to attend, please talk to us early. We will listen and work with you to help them feel safe, supported and able to make the most of school.
