What will children learn?

At Thundersley Primary School, we aim to prepare our pupils for their future by giving them the opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skills that will enable them to embrace and utilise new technology in an ever-changing digital world.  We intend to deliver a high-quality computing curriculum, which recognises the importance a knowledge and understanding of ICT for children’s future both at home and for employment.  Our Computing curriculum focuses on a progression of skills in Digital Literacy, Information Technology, Digital Creativity, and Programming.  Throughout these four strands there is an emphasis on the importance of online safety to ensure that children become competent in safely using, as well as understanding, technology.

How will children learn? 

At Thundersley Primary School, we will achieve this by:

  • Providing opportunities to promote computational thinking.
  • Developing pupils in becoming digitally literate.
  • Enabling pupils to express themselves and their ideas creatively through the use of technology.
  • Emphasising the importance of e-safety.

 

Our scheme of work for computing makes use of a range of resources to provide a progressive framework.

  • Programming units utilise NCCE (National Centre for Computing Education) resources - Scratch Jr (KS1) and Scratch (KS2).
  • Digital Literacy and Information Technology units follow the Purple Mash scheme.
  • Digital Creativity units utilise resources from Purple Mash, NCCE and Mr P ICT.

 

 What will children achieve?

By the time our children complete their journey at Thundersley Primary School they will:

  • Be able to design, write and debug programmes.
  • Use logical reasoning to explain how simple algorithms work, detecting and correcting errors in algorithms and programmes.
  • Understand computer networks, including the internet and the opportunities offered for communication and collaboration.
  • Use search technologies effectively and be discerning in evaluating digital content.
  • Be able to select, use and combine a variety of software on a range of digital devices.
  • Use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.
